Principal's Message

August 2020

Dear Seahawk Families:

Welcome to the start of a historic new school year. We are in an unprecedented time, but we are #InThisTogetherSeahawks. Our faculty and staff remain committed to supporting our students and Seahawk community. While this is a time of change, with some details still being worked out, we wanted to provide you with some information about the upcoming school year.

First Day of School and School Programs:

We will begin school on Tuesday, August 18th as planned. However, we will be starting 100% online. Once Orange County has been removed from the state watch list for two weeks, we will be able to transition back to the learning choices you selected prior to the start of school. Please be sure to check our main page for information regarding these options.

Student Schedules:

Student schedules will be released via the Aeries Parent Portal on Monday, August 17th. At this time students will be able to see their course titles, class periods, and teachers. It is important that you complete the data confirmation process.

Bell Schedule and Cohorts:

A copy of our bell schedule can be found on our main page. Additionally, under our FAQ section, there are several videos explaining our schedule and cohort model.

Families will be notified via email before the first day of school of what cohort their student has been assigned. Siblings will be placed in the same cohort. Once student schedules have been finalized, we will then begin taking a waitlist of families wishing to changes cohorts. Please note that we cannot guarantee that students will be able to change their cohorts.

PE classes will be conducted online until such time as all students may return safely to campus. Though a 6th period PE class is built into student’s schedules students do not have to adhere to the bell schedule for PE and may complete this course at a time of the choice throughout the day.

Learning Management System:

We will not be using School Loop this year, instead, we will be using the Canvas Learning Management System. You may access Canvas from our main page. We believe families and staff will find that the Canvas system allows us to do more for our students than our previous learning management system.

Some classes will be requiring students to utilize textbooks. Textbooks will be distributed during registration August 10th through 12th.

Online devices:
In order to be successful in online instruction students will need access to a device that has both a camera and a keyboard. While students may access the curriculum through an iPad or cell phone it will easier for our students if they can type. Such devices include: a desktop computer, a laptop computer, or a Chromebook. In order to best serve students, we will be checking out Chromebook to students without access to a device with a camera and a keyboard. If you have multiple Shorecliffs students at home they will each need a device (you will need to fill out this form for each student).

We hope that you all enjoy the last full week of summer. We’d like to express our gratitude for the patience and understanding that our Shorecliffs families have shown in this difficult time. As more information becomes available, we will be sharing it with you.
