Shorecliffs Student Dress And Grooming Standards

The primary standards for student dress and grooming are to be neat and clean while at school and to abide by the CUSD Student Dress and Grooming Standards. Generally, students are not to be attired in clothing which compromises safety or modesty, or is disruptive to the educational process.  Proper dress begins at home. Your school does not wish to tell you what to wear, but we do expect you to wear clothing that is neat, clean, and modest. Take pride in your appearance.

 

Students Are Not To Wear The Following:

Any Clothing/Apparel Which:

*      Is considered unsafe, dangerous, or a health hazard (i.e., torn, frayed clothing, excessively long or baggy clothing)

*      Has offensive/obscene symbols, signs, slogans, or words degrading any gender, cultural, religious, or ethnic values

*      Contains language or symbols oriented toward violence, sex, drugs, alcohol, or tobacco

Any Attire or Grooming Disruptive to the Educational Environment Which May Include, But is Not Limited to:

  •  Any clothing, apparel or accessories which are a distraction to the educational environment
  •  Sheer/see-through articles of clothing or clothing that allows any portion of an undergarment to be seen
  •  Spaghetti straps, racer-back topes, halter, tube or strapless tops, tank tops*
  • Tank tops are not allowed. All tops must have at least a cap sleeve. andthe aforementioned tops may not be worn under a sweatshirt
  •  Shirts/tops with low scooped fronts, backs or sides
  •  Bare midriff (Shirts must cover the waistband without having to be pulled down)
  •  Short skirts/shorts (Shorts/skirts must extend to end of the fingertips when arms and hands are placed at sides)
  •  Tight, revealing or pajama type clothing
  •  Extremes in hairstyles (Mohawks, spikes, etc.), unnatural colors, colored hair gel/spray or curlers
  •  Hoods, hats, bandanas or any head covering
  •  Body piercing other than ears (no spikes or plugs allowed for safety reasons)
  •  Painting or marking on faces, arms, hands, legs, including stick-on skin tattoos
  •  Bare feet, slippers, or flip flops.
  •  Clothing with rips, tears or revealing cut-outs
  •  Any clothing which allows underwear to be exposed (baggy pants/shirts/blouses)
  •    T-shirts, pants and shorts are to be size appropriate
  •    Pants are to be worn above the hips and over all garments
  •    Pant waist size should be within 2” of waist and length must be above the ground
  •    Gang related apparel of any kind (reviewed annually by law enforcement agencies)
